As a Immigrant Community Specialist 1, the incumbent will assist in the coordination of immigration workshops throughout New York State; promote and encourage immigrants to become US citizens; provide assistance to immigrants an information on the various services the state has to offer. Target outreach to new immigrant populations, based on the most current census and resettlement data available; under the direction of a supervisor, provide ombudsman services to immigrants; respond to constituent calls and letters regarding immigration matters and other concerns; follow-up with appropriate federal, state and local agencies; provide referrals to Citizenship contract providers for legal immigration assistance; assist in preparation of media advisories and flyers announcing workshops/events organized by the unit and provide translations; design flyers and prepare media advisories informing the public of upcoming information sessions/workshops in a timely manner for Director's review and approval; as well as other duties as needed.

This title is non-competitive. No examination is necessary. However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position.
Candidates must have six years experience providing assistance, direction or support helping constituents, clients or citizens to understand and participate in public and private programs. A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for up to four years of the required experience. A Master's degree may be substituted for up to five years of the required experience. Knowledge and proficiency in languages other than English is desirable, but not a requirement.
