Job Duties

Jobs Program Specialists provide a broad range of employment related services (such as completing comprehensive client assessments) to prospective employers and applicants and recipients of temporary and transitional assistance.  These positions are located in the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.  The duties of language parenthetics are the same as those of the main title, but services, assistance, or contacts are performed in the indicated language.

Trainees will receive a combination of structured training, on-the-job training, and/or practical job performance to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to function at the full performance level.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.

For qualified employees of New York State: The examination used to fill this position is called Public Administration Traineeship Transition (PATT).

For all other qualified individuals: The examination used to fill this title is called the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO):
You must meet the requirements below to qualify for this exam.

A bachelor's or higher degree; AND Spanish Language Proficiency.


If you are selected for appointment as a Jobs Program Specialist Trainee 1 (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in that language.  Proficiency must be at a level which will permit you to perform the duties of the position satisfactorily.
