Job Duties

Intermodal Transportation Specialist 3: direct, develop, and implement the overall development of work programs to prepare, review, and revise program guidelines, applications, and project evaluations; prepare annual budget recommendations for the Department's specific modal programs; assess relative economic merits of alternative transportation proposals; direct the project evaluation process and review the selection of specific projects recommended for Department funding; select projects to be submitted for recommendation; direct planning studies of existing and proposed modal projects, including allocating staff and resources; direct the development of program policies; supervise the final preparation of reports and studies; communicate and negotiate with federal and local government officials on all major program and project related issues; direct the collection, analysis, and evaluation of data regarding non-highway transportation system programs; and direct the management and operation of facilities and equipment used by non-highway transportation programs.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

The examination that is used to fill this position is called Promotion Opportunities in Transportation Management.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had three months of permanent competitive service in a position allocated to G-23 or higher.
