The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) administers and promotes public use of 168 State parks and 35 State historic sites in the nation's oldest state park system. OPRHP initiates extensive recreation and interpretive programs. OPRHP also administers four major athletic competitions: the Empire State Games; the Senior Games; the Games for the Physically Challenged; and the Empire State Winter Games. In the field of historic preservation, the Office also maintains a facility exclusively devoted to restoration and administers New York's listings in the National Register of Historic Places.
