As a Disability Analyst 3 (Spanish Language), you would supervise the review and administrative adjudication of claims for benefits under Title II and Title XVI of the Social Security Act (SSA). You will provide expertise on SSA rules and regulations on case processing; review determinations for correctness; determine eligibility or ineligibility for benefits and conduct face-to-face, telephone, or video conference hearings; assess the quality of claims processing and determinations for efficiency; coordinate training; evaluate regional programs; oversee the Disability Case Processing System; and may assist with oversight of medical relations activities.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.
On or before the date of the examination, you must have:
Either 1. a bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following fields: human biology, biochemistry, human anatomy, human physiology, psychology, nursing, physical therapy, speech and language pathology, medicine, occupational therapy, chiropractic, radiology, or medical technology AND one year of qualifying experience adjudicating claims under Title II and XVI of the Social Security Act; where the primary responsibility (50% or more of your duties) involves the evaluation of the criteria, (including medical criteria), to award disability benefits claims and/or special programs to determine a claimant's eligibility for such benefits;
Or 2. a bachelor's degree or higher in any field AND three years of experience adjudicating claims under Title II and XVI of the Social Security Act; where the primary responsibility (50% or more of your duties) involves the evaluation of the criteria, (including medical criteria), to award disability benefits claims and/or special programs to determine a claimant's eligibility for such benefits.
OR
On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and have had three months of permanent competitive, non competitive, or 55 b/55-c service as Disability Analyst 2 or Disability Analyst 2 (Spanish Language).
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
If you are selected for appointment as a Disability Analyst 3 (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in that language. Proficiency must be at a level which will permit you to perform the duties of the position satisfactorily.
