Summary of Job Description

As a Boiler Inspector, you would make scheduled regulatory safety inspections of high and low pressure boilers and boiler installations to ensure their safe operating condition and to enforce compliance with statutory provisions of the Labor Law and industrial rules relating to boiler operations. You would also make inspections as the result of complaints or accidents. These inspections may require climbing through small openings, climbing on top of boilers, and spending considerable time within the boilers. You will be required to use a computer in the performance of these duties.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination to be considered for appointment to this position.  

Candidates must have:

Either 1. four years of experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection, or the operation and maintenance of high and low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.

Or 2. an associate's degree in engineering technology or mechanical technology and two years of experience as described in 1 above;

Or 3. a bachelor's degree in marine engineering or mechanical engineering.
