Job Duties

As an Associate Employment Services Representative, you would coordinate community and business relations programs to inform community groups and businesses of the placement, counseling, and related services offered by the Department of Labor (DOL) and promote the use of such programs for the benefit of the community and businesses. You would coordinate services provided to businesses in a designated region such as recruitment efforts, on-the-job training grants, and tax incentives; collaborate with local workforce development boards, regional economic development councils, and educational institutions; and represent DOL at various public events and conduct presentations. You would also supervise subordinate Employment Services Representatives and other professional staff engaged in community and business relations programs.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have had one month of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Employment Counselor, Employment Counselor (Spanish Language), Employment Counselor (Veterans), Employment Services Representative, Employment Services Representative (Spanish Language), Occupational Analyst, Senior Employment Counselor, Senior Employment Services Representative, Supervising Labor Services Representative, Supervising Labor Services Representative (Chinese Language), Supervising Labor Services Representative (Rural), Supervising Labor Services Representative (Spanish Language), Workforce Programs Specialist 1, Workforce Programs Specialist 2, Workforce Programs Specialist Trainee 1, or Workforce Programs Specialist Trainee 2.
