As a Criminal Justice Program Specialist 2, you would work with local criminal justice agencies to evaluate operations, identify needs, and develop procedures, protocols and systems to improve operations and link them to other agencies and resources. You would work with State agency staff on regional or statewide program initiatives designed to coordinate information gathering and dissemination for use by local, state and federal criminal justice agencies. You may work with criminal justice agencies to ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations, provide programmatic expertise to law enforcement, public, other state agencies and private entities. You may also interpret federal and state guidelines and implement policy changes due to new initiatives and represent the agency on various boards, commissions or work groups. You will supervise Criminal Justice Program Specialists 1, and may supervise paraprofessional or support staff.

On or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as Criminal Justice Program Specialist Trainee 1, Criminal Justice Program Specialist Trainee 2, or Criminal Justice Program Specialist 1.
Due to the January 2019 title structure change, permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Criminal Justice Program Representative Administration Trainee 1, Criminal Justice Program Representative Administration Trainee 2, or Criminal Justice Program Representative 1 (Administration) is also qualifying.
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title on or before December 25, 2022, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you are eligible to file for this examination.
