Job Duties

As a Vehicle Safety Technical Analyst 1, under the supervision of a Vehicle Safety Technical Analyst 2, you would conduct technical evaluations and analysis of various automotive-related programs, and data generated by those programs, for which the Division of Vehicle Safety Services is responsible. You would provide technical assistance and interpretation of the Commissioner’s Rules and Regulations to the Division’s staff, the automotive industry, and the public, concerning automotive business applications, emissions and safety inspections, and general regulatory compliance. In addition, you would be responsible for reviewing, approving, and/or disapproving registration applications for unique, custom, and homemade vehicles. You would analyze proposed legislation to determine program impact. You would also be responsible for assisting in the development, monitoring, and presentation of various training courses for Division of Vehicle Safety staff and automotive industry personnel.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Automotive Facilities Inspector, Automotive Facilities Inspector (Various Language Parenthetics), Automotive Facilities Inspector Trainee, Automotive Facilities Inspector Trainee (Various Language Parenthetics), Body Repair Inspector, Body Repair Inspector (Various Language Parenthetics), Body Repair Inspector Trainee, Body Repair Inspector Trainee (Various Language Parenthetics), Motor Vehicle Consumer Services Representative 2, or Motor Vehicle Consumer Services Representative 3.
