Summary of Job Description

As a Director Self Insurance, you would direct self-insurance and accounting units, develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance by self-insurers; prepare the self-insurance budget; review and select reinsurance contracts and amendments or endorsements to meet Department of Financial Services requirements; evaluate performance of qualified self-insurers in meeting their obligations and take corrective action when necessary; supervise staff members in the resolution of complaints against self-insurers made by claimants and their attorneys, Workers Compensation Law Judges and other Board officials; review and recommend new legislation or changes to existing laws; represent executive management, including the Workers Compensation Board Chair, at meetings or seminars of carrier groups, employers, legislators and other interested parties; prepare reports for executive management and the Division of the Budget's review; direct the investigation of complaints regarding regulated individuals and entities and recommends disciplinary action where appropriate; recommend changes to self-insurance program procedures to license or terminate the license of a company due to the success/failure rate; and perform the full range of supervisory duties.
