Job Duties
As an Assistant Director Self Insurance, you would liaison with other regulatory bodies to keep abreast of how other states regulate their self-insurance programs and changes within the insurance market in general to ensure that New York State's regulatory position is effective and appropriate; review self-insurance internal controls to determine if they appropriate and recommend changes; establish procedures, prioritize and oversee field audits of employers approved for self-insurance, and review audit findings; establish actuarial formulas to determine the proper amount of the security deposit required to ensure solvency of an employers liability for workers compensation claims; conduct meetings with self-insurers, employers, insurance carriers, rating organizations, political subdivisions and others concerning the laws, rules and regulations for participation in the self-Insurance program or to resolve problems or deficiencies with accounting or reporting requirements; work closely with staff to develop databases for reporting information to interested parties, develop procedures to capture and report data, and ensure field audit data is captured in the system and records accurately reflect the new financial standing of the company; refer cases that are suspected to involve fraud to the New York State Workers Compensation Fraud Inspector General's Office; advise executive management on all self-insurance matters; review computations and formulas specific to the gathering of money, held by the Board under the self-insurance program, to ensure the ability of an employer to pay future claims; and perform the full range of supervisory duties.
