Summary of Job Description

Program Operations Specialist perform professional, administrative, and technical duties to promote the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are three examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for all three.

For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination,  you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Developmental Assistant 3, Developmental Disabilities Program Assistant, Developmental Specialist 1, Developmental Specialist 2, Dietitian 1, Dietitian 2, Habilitation Specialist 1 (and parenthetic titles), Habilitation Specialist 2, Licensed Master Social Worker 1, Nurse 1 (and parenthetic titles), Nurse 2 (and parenthetic titles), Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant 2, Physical Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant 2, Psychology Assistant 2, Psychology Assistant 3, Psychology Trainee 1, Psychology Trainee 2, Recreation Therapist (and parenthetic titles), Recreation Worker (and parenthetic titles), Rehabilitation Assistant 2 (and parenthetic titles), Rehabilitation Counselor 1, Senior Recreation Therapist (and parenthetic titles), Social Work Assistant 2 (and parenthetic titles), Social Work Assistant 3 (and parenthetic titles), Teacher 3, or Teacher 4 (and parenthetic titles).

For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of the examination you must have:

A bachelor's degree and two years of professional clinical or treatment experience, or professional administrative experience in a federal, State, or local human services program. One year of this experience must have been in a program dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

The Professional Careers Opportunities (PCO) examination is also used to fill this title.
