Summary of Job Description

As an Assistant Insurance Fund Services Representative, you would assist higher level Underwriting or Claims professional staff by processing transactions in the Workers' Compensation (WC) or Disability Benefits Fund (DB) programs. These positions process routine new policies and policy renewals; assist in the provision of routine underwriting policy processing activities; or review, process, and pay routine insurance claims. Tasks will vary based on whether you are assigned to the processing of claims or underwriting activities for the New York State Insurance Fund's Workers' Compensation program or Disability Benefits program, including Paid Family Leave (PFL) Benefits.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State, the examination used to fill this position is called Public Administration Traineeship Transition (PATT).

For qualified employees of the New York State Insurance Fund, candidates must be a qualified employee of the New York State Insurance Fund and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive, labor class, or 55-b/55-c service in a position allocated to a Grade 6 or higher.

For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of the examination,candidates must have:

Either 1. two years of customer service experience, one year of which includes the development or processing of insurance claims or responding to technical questions from policyholders or claimants;

Or 2. 60 or more semester credit hours of college study AND one year of work experience developing or processing insurance claims or responding to technical questions from policyholders or claimants.

IMPORTANT: Routine clerical, general customer service or reception duties are not considered qualifying.
