Job Duties
As a Professional Engineer 3 (Civil/Transportation), you would direct a major civil engineering program in a small to mid-sized regional facility, managing transportation projects complicated by large dollar value, multi-year rehabilitation and/or construction. You would manage the technical, legal, budgeting and financial requirements of engineering projects, and supervise multiple levels of engineer positions.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

There are two examinations for this position. Please note, New York State employees may qualify for both.
For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Thruway Authority or the New York State Canal Corporation and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or 55-b/55-c service as a Professional Engineer 2 (Civil/Transportation), Professional Engineer 2 (Civil/Structural), Professional Engineer 2 (Environmental), or Transportation Maintenance Engineer 1 (Waterways). If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.
For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the Department of Transportation and have had two months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or 55-b/55-c service in a position allocated to G-23 or higher. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.
