Agency Safety & Health Rep 1
As an Agency Safety and Health Representative 1, you would work under the direct supervision of an Agency Safety and Health Representative 2. You would be responsible for ensuring compliance with the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code by conducting safety inspections of all region facilities, preparing reports of findings and recommended action, and conduct training. Other duties may also include assisting in the conduct of safety meetings; collecting, compiling, and analyzing data regarding personal injuries, motor vehicle accidents, workers' compensation, etc.; coordinating safety recognition programs; and performing a variety of related duties as required.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position. There are two examinations held for this position. Please note that some employees of New York State may qualify for both.
For qualified employees of New York State:
On or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or non-competitive (including 55-b/55-c) service in a position allocated to Grade 8 or higher; AND
Either 1. one year of experience in the field of occupational safety and health, industrial safety, industrial hygiene, fire safety and prevention,* construction safety, or building design relating to fire codes;
Or 2. 30 semester college credits in occupational safety and health, industrial safety, industrial hygiene, fire safety and prevention, construction safety, or building design relating to fire codes;
Or 3. successful completion of NYS Firefighter 1 certification.
*Experience related to firefighting (paid and volunteer) is NOT qualifying.
For all qualified individuals:
On or before the date of examination, you must have:
Either 1. four years of experience in the field of occupational safety and health, industrial safety, industrial hygiene, construction safety, fire safety and prevention,* or building design relating to fire codes;
Or 2. 30 semester college credits in occupational safety and health, industrial safety, industrial hygiene, construction safety, fire safety and prevention, or building design relating to fire codes AND three years of experience as described above. You must include with your application a list of qualifying courses, showing the name of each course, number of credits, the date(s) of course completion and the college or university where the education was received.
*Experience limited to firefighting (paid or volunteer) is NOT qualifying.
