Summary of Job Description

As an Agency Safety and Health Director 1, you would review agency operations to identify and assess occupational hazards that are limited in variety and the safety procedures and protocols are usually incorporated into work practices and do not require specialized, ongoing training and monitoring; develop agency safety and health policies and strategies for implementing safety and health regulations, and collective bargaining agreement provisions affecting safety and health for State agencies with one to few work locations. You may also assist an Agency Safety and Health Director 2.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position. There are two examinations held for this position. Please note that some New York State employees may qualify for both.

For qualified employees of New York State: On or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Agency Safety and Health Representative 2.

For all qualified individuals, candidates must have:

Either 1.    eight years of experience in the development and administration of occupational health and safety programs for an organization of 500 or more employees.

Or 2.    a bachelor's or higher degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or industrial engineering AND four years of experience as described above.
