As an Agency Safety and Health Director 2, you would review agency operations to identify and assess potentially high risk occupational hazards that require specialized and ongoing training, typically covered by OSHA regulations and that also require a multilevel approach combining training, personal protection equipment and medical monitoring to mitigate or eliminate the hazards; develop agency safety and health policies and the strategies for implementing these safety and health regulations, and collective bargaining agreement provisions affecting safety and health for larger State agencies with multiple work locations. In addition, work locations are often dispersed statewide, requiring a network of designated safety representatives at the various work sites who report to the Agency Safety and Health Director 2.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position. There are two examinations that fill this title. Please note that some employees of New York State may qualify for both.
For qualified employees of New York State: On or before the date of examiantion, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Agency Safety and Health Director 1.
For all qualified individuals: On or before the date of examination, you must have:
Either 1. nine years of experience in the development and administration of occupational health and safety programs for an organization of 500 or more employees. Two years of this experience must have been at a supervisory level.
Or 2. a bachelor's or higher degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or industrial engineering AND five years of experience as described above.
