Summary of Job Description

As a Business Services Center Representative 1, you would:

Process transactions in applications such as the Right Now Ticketing System, PayServ, Human Resources Information System, New York State Electronic Personnel System, and Statewide Financial System.

Interact with customers and vendors to obtain missing information, answer requests for information regarding services provided by the BSC, and interpret and explain laws, rules and regulations.

Resolve difficult processing errors and identify processing system user needs.

Research legislation, form changes, and system change requests, procedures and policy directives to determine impact on operations and procedures.

Participate in the development and execution of test conditions to ensure performance of automated processes and systems in conformance with legislative mandates and department requirements.

May serve as Level 2 Call Center Representative for the BSC Customer Service Call Center.

When assigned to supervise staff, review and approve time and attendance; identify staff development needs; evaluate staff performance; and complete performance evaluations.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.

For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in an office assistant, clerical or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher.


For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of the examination, the candidate must have either:

1. three years of business or human resources office experience in one or more of the following: accounts payable, accounts receivable and/or bookkeeping; processing payroll transactions; processing travel expense reports and/or reimbursements; processing personnel, benefits and/or time and attendance transactions; reviewing requisitions for purchase, and initiating and processing purchase orders.

OR

2. 30 semester credit hours AND two years of business or human resources office experience in one or more of the following: accounts payable, accounts receivable and/or bookkeeping; processing payroll transactions; processing travel expense reports and/or reimbursements; processing personnel, benefits and/or time and attendance transactions; reviewing requisitions for purchase, and initiating and processing purchase orders.

OR

3. 60 semester credit hours AND one year of business or human resources office experience in one of more of the following: accounts payable, accounts receivable and/or bookkeeping; processing payroll transactions; processing travel expense reports and/or reimbursements; processing personnel, benefits and/or time and attendance transactions; reviewing requisitions for purchase, and initiating and processing purchase orders.
