Summary of Job Description

As an Accountant Aide, in general, under the direct supervision of a professional accountant or auditor, you would adjust entries, verify accounting records and review and evaluate current procedures. You would prepare trial balances, bank reconciliations and financial statements in accordance with generally acceptable accounting principles. You would draft correspondence and/or segments of audit reports; assist in analyzing and evaluating financial reports, and review documents for change in contract terms and conditions, and inform staff. You would assist in rate-of-return studies; compile materials needed for performance of audits; perform routine data gathering; assist in inventory control systems, and test checking equipment. Since extended travel may be required, at the time of appointment you must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State, or you must demonstrate your ability to meet the travel requirements of the position.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.  

For qualified employees of New York State:  On or before the date of filing application, candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State Department of Public Service, or the Office of General Services, or Higher Education Services Corporation, or Office of the State Comptroller, or Canal Corporation, or Department of Environmental Conservation, or Department of Taxation and Finance, or Division of Tax Appeals, or Department of Motor Vehicles and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a position allocated to Grade 5 or higher. IN ADDITION, you must also have completed or expect to complete six semester credit hours of accounting courses (Fundamentals of Accounting I or II or equivalent) with a grade of "C" or higher.
