As a Tax Compliance Representative 3, you would direct and supervise the activities of several teams engaged in the collection of delinquent taxes or other financial obligations. You would establish priorities for your assigned teams and ensure adherence to Tax Law and Department policies. You would make final determinations regarding enforcement actions or case referrals, and resolve disputes with taxpayers and/or their representatives. You would review collection activity reports and evaluate the report on the effectiveness of your unit’s collection activities. When required, you would act as an advocate or witness on behalf of the Department in conferences, hearings, or civil actions. You would prepare and submit reports on collection activities. You may be assigned to work on special projects as needed.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination to be considered for appointment to this position.
There are two examinations for this position.
On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance or the Division of Tax Appeals and have had two months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Tax Compliance Representative 2, Tax Compliance Representative 2 (Spanish Language), Tax Compliance Agent 2, Taxpayer Services Specialist 2, Taxpayer Services Specialist 2 (Spanish Language), Tax Technician 2 (Corporation), Tax Technician 2 (Excise), Tax Technician 2 (Income), or Tax Technician 2 (Sales).
OR
On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Tax Compliance Representative 2 or Tax Compliance Agent 2.
