Job Duties

As a Developmental Disabilities Operations Director 1 (BITS), you would:

Plan and coordinate the OPWDD service provision for BITS service recipients.  

Supervise the operation of BITS including the BITS forensic coordinators, and the Central Office Bureau staff.  

Coordinate the provision of clinical information for intellectually disabled persons who become involved in the criminal justice system.

Ensure compliance with court orders issued for defendants committed to the custody of the Commissioner as unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible for their actions.

Chair the Statewide Forensic Advisory Committee and the Statewide Admissions Committee, which controls all admissions and discharges to all institutions operated by OPWDD.

Coordinate the development and delivery of training to the criminal justice system including judges, attorneys, police officers, parole officers, probation officers, and the Department of Correctional Services and Community Supervision.

Serve as interagency liaison to Department of Correctional Services and Community Supervision, Office of Mental Health Bureau of Forensic Services, and other criminal justice agencies.

Ensure compliance with standards for designated secure facilities through regular and unannounced security reviews, peer reviews, and reviews of secondary source reports.
