Summary of Job Description

As a Principal Librarian (Technical Processes), you would be responsible for the administration and coordination of technical services in the New York State Library, a 20 million item research library. The technical services unit receives more than 386,000 items annually and is responsible for a $3 million book budget. The Principal Librarian (Technical Processes) would plan, coordinate and supervise operations in acquisitions, cataloging, government documents and the New York State Newspaper Project. You would also evaluate and revise existing procedures, as well as initiate new procedures, in order to improve access to the resources of the New York State Library.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

Candidates must have six years of post-MLS professional library experience. Three years of this experience must have been in the administration or management of technical services in a large (100,000 volumes or more) academic, public, research, special or State library with responsibility for staff supervision, acquisition, budget preparation and technical processing policy development and implementation. The MLS must be from an American Library Association accredited school.
