Summary of Job Description

As a Mapping Technologist 1, you would assist higher-level technologists and perform complex mapping duties in the development and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); use digital photogrammetric workstations for the compilation or management of mapping projects, digital terrain models (DTM) and orthoimagery following standard specification and procedures; perform contract vendor mapping checks, aerotriangulation measurement and adjustments, and special LiDAR mapping or modeling; review and edit digital maps and DTM files compiled by in-house staff or contract vendors, following standard specifications and procedures; perform special tasks and assignments which may include contract vendor mapping checks and DTM quality and accuracy analysis; carry out or assist in the acquisition, inspection and evaluation of aerial photography, LiDAR and stereocompilation services, including coordination with design staff, and the preparation of written correspondence and specifications; and monitor project schedules and technical requirements.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination candidates must have:

a bachelor’s degree, including or supplemented by 21 semester credit hours in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, cartography, LiDAR and/or photogrammetry;* AND

nine additional semester credit hours in any combination of cartography, LiDAR, photogrammetry, GIS, computer science, remote sensing, photo interpretation, statistics, and/or surveying.*

*You must include, with your application, a transcript or a list of qualifying courses showing the name of the course, the number of semester credit hours, dates of completion, the college or university attended, and whether the course is at the graduate or undergraduate level.

Substitution: A master’s degree in cartography, photogrammetry, surveying, or GIS, that includes at least 12 graduate credits in cartography, LiDAR, and/or photogrammetry, can be substituted for the educational requirement and for up to one year of the required experience.
