Job Duties

As a Supervising Unemployment Insurance Hearing Representative, you would directly supervise Associate Unemployment Insurance Hearing Representatives, and lower-level staff assigned to the Adjudication Services Office. You would prepare and present contested benefit claims and employer liability cases heard by Unemployment Insurance Referees; assign cases for review, preparation and presentation before Referees; confer with and advise Associate Unemployment Insurance Hearing Representatives supervising difficult and complex cases involving questions of precedence or policy; review work performance of staff; analyze recommendations by staff for appeal from Referee decisions to the Appeal Board; and analyze Appeal Board decisions. These positions exist in Department of Labor and are located statewide.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass an examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination,  you must be a qualified employee of New York State Department of Labor and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as shown below. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.

Either A.an Associate Unemployment Insurance Hearing Representative;

Or

B. a Senior Unemployment Insurance Hearing Representative.
