Job Duties

As an Information Technology Specialist 4, you would supervise computer systems analysis and design, application program development, systems testing, maintenance, and implementation.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.

on or before the date of the examination, you must have:

Either 1. a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science AND three years of experience in the following computer related areas: computer programming; network, storage, and systems management; telecommunications, IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis, and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design, and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing;

Or 2. a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field AND four years of experience in computer related areas as described in #1 above;

Or 3. an associate's degree* with 15 semester credit hours in a computer science field AND five years of experience in computer related areas as described in #1 above;

Or 4. six years of experience in computer related areas as described in #1 above.

OR

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had 45 days of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Chief Computer Operator, Information Technology Specialist 3, Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming), or Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming).

Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.

**If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title on or before October 26, 2022, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you are eligible to file for this examination.
