As a Homeless Services Representative 2, you would provide overall guidance and direction to Homeless Services Representatives 1 and clerical support staff in the conduct of inspections of facilities providing emergency shelter to individuals/families experiencing homelessness, set priorities, and provide interpretation of standards and the application of those standards to the inspection process. You may conduct inspections and reviews of facilities with difficult issues; interview facility staff and residents to determine adequacy and quality of services and staffing ratios; prepare reports of inspections and recommend corrective action and conduct follow-up inspections; provide facility operators with interpretations of rules, regulations, and standards and advise them on methods to meet requirements; direct or may personally conduct investigation of complaints; determine validity of the complaints; take necessary steps to correct situations, including administrative actions; coordinate plans with the local district having jurisdiction; and meet with legal staff to discuss non-compliance issues.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:
Either A: a Homeless Services Representative 1, Homeless Services Representative Trainee 1, or Homeless Services Representative Trainee 2.
Or B: a Housing Specialist 1, Housing Specialist Trainee 1, or Housing Specialist Trainee 2.
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
