Summary of Job Description

As a Youth Support Coordinator 2, you would supervise lower-level Youth Support Coordinators, Youth Support Specialists, and Youth Support Assistants involved in directing, guiding, and providing daily care and supervision of youth. Duties may include: assigning cases to staff according to their abilities and the complexity of workload; consulting on issues and making recommendations such as program changes or new techniques and strategies for group discussion to improve services ordered; providing training and orientation to new staff on Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) philosophy, programs, procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the facility; may directly assist staff in handling the most difficult cases; observe actions of subordinate workers to determine appropriateness of technique and develop further training; review reports and recommendations of subordinates regarding disposition of cases; and perform other supervisory tasks such as scheduling work, approving leave requests, and evaluating the performance of subordinates. In addition, you may also serve as a Family Court Liaison with OCFS, the courts, probation officers, and other involved parties.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of the exam, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as:

Either A. a Youth Counselor 1, Youth Counselor 1 (Spanish Language), Youth Counselor 1 (Cadet), Youth Support Coordinator 1 or Youth Support Coordinator 1 (Spanish Language);

Or B. an Education Supervisor (General), Licensed Master Social Worker 2, Teacher 4, Vocational Instructor 4, Vocational Specialist 1, Youth Education Coordinator, Youth Recreation Specialist 2 or Youth Recreation Specialist 3.
