Summary of Job Description

As an Education Finance Specialist 3, you would supervise a team of Education Finance Specialists 1 and 2 or other related professionals in the processing of all financial transactions related to the Statewide Financial System (SFS) operations and programs; evaluate new guidelines to ensure that they do not conflict with current SED and bureau policies and procedures; review the proposed legislation and other SED initiatives to determine its effects on fiscal services; and provide technical assistance to SED staff, management, and other individuals or groups. You would also prepare reports and correspondence for management's signature; perform comprehensive review of the processes, data, and systems to ensure accuracy of data and compliance with applicable guidance; assist in the developing of unit policies and procedures; serve as the liaison to program managers and various outside sources; direct the development of critical financial reports, record keeping, and automated system; and supervise and participate in the development of training programs for professional staff.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Education Department and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an:

Either A: Education Finance Specialist 2;

Or B: Education Finance Specialist 1.
