Job Duties

As a Coastal Resources Specialist 3, you would administratively supervise Coastal Resources Specialists 2 in the management of planning and construction projects undertaken by waterfront communities and local organizations to advance economic development and protect natural resources; provide oversight of consistency reviews and coordinate with State and federal regulators on coastal programs to ensure proper administration of the New York State Coastal Management Program (NYS CMP); assign work according to established priorities and within budgeted resources; coordinate efforts between State and local agencies; direct the preparation of technical reports; develop and maintain guidelines and other criteria for preparing informational and educational materials; assist in reviewing and preparing legislation; represent the Department on boards, commissions, hearings, and meetings with public and private interest groups and officials; and conduct on-site visits or directly participate in complex projects.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of State and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Coastal Resources Specialist 2.
