Summary of Job Description

Correctional Facility Program Administrator positions are management level positions located in Correction Camps, Shock Incarceration, and other small correctional facilities, and perform duties similar to those of Deputy Superintendents for Program Services 2 and 3 found in larger correctional facilities. Incumbents of these positions oversee the following program areas: Academic and Vocational Education; Guidance and Counseling Services; Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment (ASAT) Programs; Ministerial, Family, and Volunteer Services; Transitional Services; General and Law Library Services; and Special Subjects. You would function as a member of the facility executive team, routinely act as Officer-of-the-Day, may act in the capacity of the Facility Superintendent during his/her absence, and often represent the facility in Labor/Management meetings. You would assist in the care and confinement of inmates sentenced to the custody of the Department of Correctional Services and as such, assist in the overall operation of the facility to which you are assigned.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must have three years of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a position allocated to Grade 14 or higher at the New York State Department of Correctional Services including at least one year as a Correction Counselor, Correction Counselor (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment), Correction Counselor (Manual Communications), Correction Counselor (Spanish Language), Correction Counselor (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment) (Spanish Language), Correctional Mental Health Program Specialist, Education Counselor, Education Supervisor (General), Education Supervisor (Vocational), Inmate Grievance Program Coordinator, Regional Coordinator Correctional Volunteer Services, Senior Librarian, Supervising Correction Counselor, Supervising Correction Counselor (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment), Supervisor Inmate Grievance Program, or Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Manual Communications).
