Economic Development Program Admr 1
As an Economic Development Program Administrator 1, you would, under the general direction of the Deputy Commissioner, the Economic Development Program Administrator 2, Economic Development Program Administrator 3, or other higher level position, manage a mid-sized regional office or a business/economic development program. You would develop and implement economic development plans and programs; conduct community relations/awareness programs in order to promote services to the Department; and manage subordinate staff in order to ensure effective program development, service delivery, and administrative operations.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.
For employees of New York State, on or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Economic Development and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:
Either A. Economic Development Program Specialist 3;
Or B. Chief Communications Industry Production Assistance, Commerce Policy Analyst 2, Industrial Development Representative International, Minority Business Development Specialist 4, Program Research Specialist 4 (Economics Finance), Tourism Trade Specialist 3, Environmental Compliance Assistance Supervisor, or Supervising Program Representative NYSTAR.
For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of the examination, you must have:
Either 1. ten years of full-time professional economic development experience in a subdivision of government, not-for-profit organization or economic development office of a public utility firm of which one year MUST include managerial level experience and five years MUST include higher-level professional economic development experience in one or a combination of the following experiences: principal or sole responsibility for the development of major projects which includes responding to client requests for proposals and negotiation of incentives; development of economic development strategies and tactics; administration of a substantial economic development program; preparation of complex economic development research and analysis; coordination of technology acceleration, adoption, validation or other technological assistance for industry to facilitate economic development;
Or 2. an associate's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, economic development, marketing, public administration, urban/regional planning, management, or tourism development AND eight years of full-time professional economic development experience* in a subdivision of government, not-for-profit organization or economic development office of a public utility firm of which one year MUST include managerial level experience and five years MUST include the above higher-level professional economic development experience;
Or 3. a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting, business administration, economics, economic development, marketing, public administration, urban/regional planning, management, or tourism development AND six years of full-time professional economic development experience* in a subdivision of government, not-for-profit organization or economic development office of a public utility firm of which one year MUST include managerial level experience and five years MUST include the above higher-level professional economic development experience.
