Summary of Job Description

As a Highway Safety Program Analyst 2, you would supervise Highway Safety Program Analysts 1 and support staff and/or serve as a member of a team responsible for identifying and analyzing highway safety problems, objectives, and countermeasures and implementing highway safety program improvements. You would coordinate the planning, design, review, and evaluation of accident reduction programs for highway safety projects administered by state and local agencies under the provisions of the Federal Highway Safety Act; coordinate the development and documentation of components for a statewide, inter-agency highway safety work program governing the utilization and allocation of Federal Highway Safety Funds; research, develop, and administer federal grants and plan and organize the development of the State Highway Safety Strategic Plan; oversee the work and conduct periodic evaluations of program providers to ensure that they meet established standards; coordinate and present highway traffic safety public information or education programs; review, analyze, and make recommendations regarding complex or sensitive proposed legislation concerning highway safety issues; and research traffic safety, alcohol and drug rehabilitation, and driver safety education programs utilizing electronic resources.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-cservice as a Highway Safety Program Analyst 1, Highway Safety Program Analyst Trainee 1, Highway Safety Program Analyst Trainee 2, or Highway Safety Program Representative.

After one year of the journey-level service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.
