The New York Lottery, an autonomous unit of the Department of Taxation and Finance, is the largest state-run lottery in North America, as measured by annual sales of approximately $5.4 billion. The Lottery's mission is to generate revenue to support primary and secondary education statewide through the sale of Lottery tickets. Since its inception in 1967, the Lottery's cumulative revenue contribution exceeds $22 billion.
