Job Duties

As an Information Technology Specialist 4 (Database), you would supervise and perform functions relative to database definition, documentation, structure, installation, organization, and management.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.

On or before the date of the examination, you must have:

Either 1. a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in programming languages AND three years of experience in database programming or administration;

Or 2. a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field AND four years of experience in database programming or administration;

Or 3. an associate's degree* with 15 semester credit hours in programming languages AND five years of experience in database programming or administration;

Or 4. six years of experience in database programming or administration.

To qualify for No. 26-383, the database programming or administration experience must have involved direction or performance of activities related to managing and maintaining enterprise database environments as well as the data contained in the databases. The experience must have included responsibility for designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems.

OR

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had 45 days of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Chief Computer Operator, Information Technology Specialist 3, Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming), or Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming).

Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.

**If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title on or before October 26, 2022, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you are eligible to file for this examination.
