As an Information Technology Specialist 4 (Data Communications), you would supervise and perform data communications network analysis, design, installation, monitoring, performance evaluation, tuning, and maintenance.

There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.
On or before the date of the examination, you must have:
Either 1. a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in networking and/or telecommunications AND three years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications;
Or 2. a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field AND four years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications;
Or 3. an associate's degree* with 15 semester credit hours in a networking and/or telecommunications AND five years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications;
Or 4. six years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications.
To qualify for No. 26-382, the networking and/or telecommunications experience must have involved the design, analysis, capacity planning, monitoring, performance evaluation, and/or tuning of a data communications/telecommunications network.
OR
On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had 45 days of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Chief Computer Operator, Information Technology Specialist 3, Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming), or Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming).
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
**If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title on or before October 26, 2022, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you are eligible to file for this examination.
