Job Duties
As the Assistant Director of Forest Ranger Services, you will participate in developing and implementing policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to Division functions; provide program direction and direct supervision to Forest Rangers 4 and Forest Rangers 3; respond to complaints and inquiries from the public, Legislature, State and federal agencies; prepare monthly and annual reports of Division activities; analyze data to increase efficiency and productivity and make recommendations to the Director to enhance program delivery; prepare Division budget and spending plans; oversee the purchase of major equipment; ensure federal grants are prepared and submitted timely; administer the distribution and spending of grant funds to ensure compliance with State and federal guidelines and serve as the Division's personnel manager concerning hiring, complaint investigations and health and safety training.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the Department of Environmental Conservation and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as either:
A. Forest Ranger 3 or Forest Ranger 4;
Or
B. Forest Ranger 2.
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.
