Summary of Job Description

As a Real Estate Officer, in general, you would have overall responsibility for a regional Real Property Services Unit in which you would supervise, train and monitor all real property staff regarding appraisals, negotiations of leases and acquisition of properties. In addition, you would prepare or review more complicated appraisals and resolve issues and problems associated with development of appraisal and lease negotiations. You would establish and maintain the administrative procedures for your professional and clerical staff in all matters pertaining to acquisition and leasing of properties.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are four different examinations held for this position.

For Real Estate Officer 1-DOT: On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Real Estate Specialist 2.

For Real Estate Officer 1-OGS: On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of General Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Real Estate Specialist 2 (General Services), Senior Land Surveyor, Building Space Analyst 2 or Leasing Agent 2.

For Real Estate Officer 1-EnCon: On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation or the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Real Estate Specialist 2 (Conservation) or Senior Land Surveyor.

For Real Estate Officer 1-OPWDD: On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Real Estate Specialist 2.
