Job Duties

Administrative Officers 1 direct and supervise business, fiscal, and office services for an agency, which includes such areas as payroll operations, purchasing, maintenance of accounting records and controls, office equipment and supplies, expenditure review and control, files, space planning, mail distribution, and related administrative duties. Incumbents supervise professional and clerical staff, review accounting records and transactions, and provide technical assistance and training to lower level staff. In smaller organizations, Administrative Officers 1 may also be responsible for the agency's budget, human resources, labor relations and affirmative action programs.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of one of the following agencies: New York State Department of Transportation; New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; New York State Thruway Authority; New York State Canal Corporation; New York State Department of Public Service or the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs AND have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Human Resources Specialist 1, Training Specialist 1, Administrative Assistant, Senior Administrative Analyst, Contract Management Specialist 1, or Senior Budgeting Analyst.
