Job Duties
As an Investigative Specialist 4 (Motor Vehicle), you would manage and direct the operations of a specialized program or group of investigative units headed by Investigative Specialists 2 (Motor Vehicle) or Investigative Specialists 3 (Motor Vehicle) in a central, regional or district office; and oversee the performance of investigations related to the administration and enforcement of the laws, rules and regulations governing motor vehicle sales, registration, licensing, and disposal. You would provide technical expertise and participate in joint operations with various federal, State, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies for the purpose of combating auto theft and the production and/or use of fraudulent documents. You would enforce and administer the Vehicle and Traffic Law, the Commissioner's Rules and Regulations, the Public Officer's Law, the General Business Law, the Penal Law, and the Criminal Procedure Law.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Investigative Specialist 3 (Motor Vehicle).
