Job Duties

As a Supervising Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner, you would directly supervise Associate Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiners, and lower-level staff who apply the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Law, administrative rulings and precedent adjudication decisions, to determine worker status and employee coverage under the UI Law, employer UI contribution and experience rating, and UI benefit claims contingent on employee coverage or employer liability. You would oversee staff making determinations on employment status, employment coverage, penalty assessments, initial determination, and registration and status maintenance of employers; direct the review of contribution liability cases; develop and issue policies and procedures on changes in employer liability and/or coverage; oversee the preparation of technical materials and case summaries; review staff performance and recommend training; analyze recommendations by staff for appeal from Referee decisions to the Appeal Board; and analyze Appeal Board decisions.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you
you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:

Either A. an Associate Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner;

Or B. a Senior Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner.
