As an Information Technology Assistant, you would resolve user problems by communicating with end users and by translating technical problems from end-users to technical support staff. You would install hardware, software, and peripherals; run diagnostic software; utilize mainframe and/or client server software to provide system security access; and accommodate user requests for computer hardware and software.

You must take and pass an examination in order to be considered for this position.
For all qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the written examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a position allocated to Grade 6 or higher; AND either:
1. three college credits in computer or information science;
OR
2. twenty-four hours of vendor training in Help Desk/User Support Operations or Installation Services. Training in specific software packages not directed at Help Desk/User Support Operations or Installation Services will NOT be considered qualifying;
OR
3. the equivalent of one year of satisfactory full-time work experience in a Help Desk/User Support or Installation Services environment. The primary emphasis of this experience must include problem analysis, the provision of direct user support for problem/question resolution, and/or the installation and configuration of computer hardware or software.
