As a Principal Economist (Labor Research), you would plan and manage a major phase of an agency’s economic program, and formulate, conduct and supervise the conduct of economic studies and analysis. You would provide management and others with technical information and interpretation of pertinent economic findings; develop plans for economic studies based on program needs; analyze or direct the analysis and interpretation of data and recommend course of action based on study findings; and supervise a staff of Economists and clerical positions performing various activities in an economic program.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
For qualified employees of New York State you must be a qualified employee of the New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:
Either A. as an Associate Economist, Associate Economist (Labor Research), Associate Economist (Milk Marketing), Associate Economist (Regulatory Economics), or Econometrician 2;
Or B. as an Associate Statistician.
