The mission of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is to ensure its customers those who move themselves, other people, or products to, from, through, or within New York State have a safe, efficient, balanced, and environmentally sound transportation system. NYSDOT is accountable to the people of New York State in five priority result areas: to assure the mobility and the reliability of the transportation system across all modes, to meet the expectation of safety, to manage and operate a system that will promote the State's economy, to be pro active stewards of our environment, and to provide a secure transportation system and infrastructure. These five result areas are used to gauge the Department's accountability to its customers. To facilitate its focus on performance and accountability, the Department continuously reviews its operations and its re engineering processes to improve the programs and services it provides to the State.
