The Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) plans, develops, regulates, and funds prevention programs, treatment facilities, and research activities concerning alcohol and other substance abuse. OASAS also provides some direct treatment services. There are 1,000 certified treatment programs in the State, 500 prevention agencies, and the Research Institute on Addictions in Buffalo. OASAS credentials alcohol and drug abuse counselors, presents statewide training, advocates on behalf of its constituency, and helps to develop statewide services involving health, human services, employment, education, and criminal justice organizations in the private sector and in all levels of government.
